Laura Miranda

Owner/Instructor, Licensed Physical Therapist, Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Certified Fitness Nutrition Coach.

Laura N. Miranda is the founder and creator of Gay Men’s Boot Camp, the first and only boot camp program dedicated entirely to gay men.

Laura grew up in Baldwin, Long Island and now resides in Battery Park City, NYC. She has been involved in competitive athletics since the age of 7. It was a result of extensive rehabilitation for a potentially career ending knee injury in high school that lead Laura to pursue a career in sports medicine. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of South Carolina. During that time Laura Miranda became a Certified Personal Trainer (ACE) and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) specializing in collegiate athletes as well as heading up the Geriatric Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program at USC. Laura is also a graduate of Laura Miranda owner of Miranda Fitness ConceptsHunter College in New York City with a Masters of Science degree in Physical Therapy. She has recently retired form the position of Clinical Director of Physical Therapy at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center in Manhattan in order to focus on Miranda Fitness Concepts. 

Laura holds a unique niche in the field of health and wellness by combining her complex understanding of human movement as a Physical Therapist with her knowledge of fitness and nutrition as Personal Trainer. She and her programs have been featured on the WB 11 Morning News and NY1 and in print in Crain’s, Time Out, Viv Magazine, Best of Gay New York, Edge, Village Voice, Daily News, Newsday, AM New York, Metro, NY Sun, Explore LI, and the Long Island Herald. Laura emphasizes the importance of both physiological and psychological balance in pursuit of achieving goals for the body as well as for life. “The body cannot run at 100% capacity until the brain doing the same.”

 Rachel Oakes  

Originally from upstate New York, Rachel currently resides in Brooklyn.  While growing up she was committed to a life of for sitecompetitive athletics. Some of her greatest accomplishments have included attending and placing in the NYSPHSAA track and field indoor and outdoor state championships for three years straight. In 2005 she graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.  Rachel achieved the coveted role of captain of the University’s Division I Track and Field team for which she still holds school records for speed.  After graduation she was hired by the team as an assistant coaching  for the elite Sprint Squad. 

After a brief stint in Southern California Rachel moved to New York City to pursue her passions.  After becoming a Certified Personal Trainer with the division of the National Academy of Sports Medicine, she immediately began working with clients at a high end gym in midtown. In her free time Rachel officiates high school track and field meets and plays on a competitive soccer club based out of Astoria, Queens which is part of the New York Metropolitan Women’s Soccer League. 

Rachel coaches the Gay Men’s Boot Camp in the West Village, NYC at 6:30am year round.
